It's Gardening Time!

When we were in Tennessee, Isaac and Heidi got us hooked
on the idea of square foot gardening. This is Stan making the
special soil that is recommended for the garden. The author
of the book says that if you start with the right kind of dirt,
you will be able to grow things better. We decided to give it a try.
Stan is using our 'well used' little cement mixer to mix the soil.
It is 1 part compost, 1 part pearlite, and 1 part peat moss.
When it is all mixed up, it looks and feels just like the
potting soil you buy in the bags.
Alex and Brydie came up and were really excited to see our
garden project. Alex helped build a couple more boxes
and mix some earth. Here he is screwing in the screws
for me to run to twine to make the grid work to
know where to plant everything.
These are some of the boxes that have things growing in them.
In the front are peas. We will put up a trelles for them to
grow on. There is also chard in the right middle and
cabbages at the back. A row of green and the very
back row is purple cabbage.

This box has a couple of peppers and a whole bunch of onions.

This is our corn box. You can see one of the tomatoes in the back left.

This is the outside view of the garden. Alex and Phillip bought me grape

vines for Mother's day. They are planted on the outside of the garden fence.

We will update our garden throughout the season.
